Twelve glasses. One hour. The whole island, in order. The 12 Shots of Paradise is the reason most people find their way to Pandy Beach House, and it is the best hour you will spend in Grenada. You sit with the sea in front of you and twelve pours arranged in front of that, lightest to strongest. You begin soft, with banana and nutmeg at 22 percent. You move through mango. Through soursop and sea moss. Through pineapple, ginger and moringa, then coconut, sorrel, and coffee bean with vanilla. Every one of them is real Grenadian fruit and spice, infused in aged rum for months. Nothing artificial goes near any of it, and that is why they taste like this island rather than like a sweet shop. Then the rums arrive and the whole thing changes character. Sky Red, our original, lightly aged. Spiced. And finally Kill Devil, barrel aged at 65 percent, which is less a shot than a decision. By the last glass you have not simply drunk twelve rums. You have tasted the nutmeg this island is named for, the cocoa that grows up the hill, the sorrel that comes out at Christmas, and the sea moss people here have taken for generations. It is Grenada, poured in order. There is no host talking over you and no schedule to keep up with. Your board comes with a tasting card that tells you what each glass is and where it came from, and after that the hour is yours. Some people work through it in half an hour. Others sit with it until the light goes gold, sipping and talking and getting to the last glass when they get there. Both are right. There is no rush. The sea is not going anywhere. Places are limited to eight guests per session so that every board is poured properly and nobody is rushed. Larger groups are very welcome, just get in touch and we will arrange it with you. Pandy Beach House is strictly adults only, 18 and over. We are on Pandy Beach in St George's, a five minute walk from Port Louis Marina. Come hungry if you can. Twelve rums land better with something from the food huts, and the sunset is worth staying for. Reserve your board.
